Shazam! is set to be the superhero movie of 2019, if the trailer's rave reviews are anything to go by. And its leading man, Zachary Levi, is the latest star to be announced for the Middle East Film and Comic Con line-up.

It was revealed on March 26 that Levi will be heading to the UAE for the three-day comic book event, held at Dubai World Trade Centre.

Shazam! is set for UAE release on April 4, so Levi will make timely appearance at Comic Con from April 11 to 13.

Watch the second Shazam! trailer here, which was released in March:

The DC movie is a comedy take on the superhero genre - think a PG13 Deadpool - with a 14-year-old kid  transformed into a superhero by an ancient wizard. So Shazam, the titular hero, has all of his teenage worries and woes, just with a new superhero body and set of responsibilities.

Ahead of its release, the movie has 93 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics writing: "A welcome antidote to the usual brooding DC fare, an upbeat superhero movie that feels young at heart." And: "Shazam! is just a lightning bolt of unexpected joy that is certainly worth your time and money."

American actor Levi, 38, is known for his past roles in TV shows Chuck and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and as the voice of Flynn Rider in Disney's Tangled.

Levi is not the first star to be announced for the three-day event. Other celebrities who will be appearing at the film, comic and sci-fi convention include Mike Colter, who plays Marvel's Luke Cage, voice actress Tara Strong and Arrow star Katie Cassidy, who plays Black Siren, as well as Walking Dead actor Ross Marquand.

Plus, Filipino cosplay superstar Alodia Gosiengfiao is set to be returning to the UAE-edition of Comic Con.
