Fan of Amoory director Amer Salmeen Al Murry has completed shooting his second feature film at twofour54's Kizad, Abu Dhabi backlot, as well as on location in the capital itself and in Al Ain City. He will now enter post-production at twofour54.
Last year's football drama Fan of Amoory has visited 20 international festivals, picking up six awards along the way, since its Abu Dhabi premiere in February 2018.
Al Murry is again partnering with Cinema Vision Films on the latest production, which will also benefit from Abu Dhabi Film Commission’s 30 per cent rebate for film production taking place in the emirate.
Ghost is described as a blend of horror, comedy and thriller. The storyline is centred on a conflict over an inheritance, with a grandmother demanding all the members of her family live together in her house before she will agree to sell it. The adventure begins as the family travels from Abu Dhabi to the house, where mysterious events begin to occur.
The new movie stars a host of established local talents including Mariam Sultan, Abdelah Al Junaibi, Alaa Shaker, Hmeed al Awadi, Khaled Alnuaimi and Mayed Al Bloushi. Ghost will also introduce audiences to four new actors to UAE cinema: Kano Al Kendy, Rehab Al Mheiri, Lobna Alhasan and Rasem Hamdan.
The film also features a special guest appearance from Algerian award-winning actor Jilali Boujemaa. Boujemma previously starred in Yasmine Chouikh's romantic drama Until the End of Time. That film debuted at Diff in 2017 and picked up awards including including best script and best feature at the seventh Maghreb Film Festival in Oujda, Morocco, in 2018.
The film was selected as Algeria's submission to the 91st Academy Awards – the 20th Algerian submission for Best Foreign Language Film since it picked up the very first award for the thriller Z in 1969. This will be the first time Boujemaa will star in an Emirati movie.
