Mahmoud Kaabour’s Champ of the Camp, the first feature-length documentary filmed in the labour camps of the UAE, will have its world premiere at the 10th edition of the Dubai International Film Festival.

Champ of the Camp, will showcase at Screen on the Green, a new initiative in partnership with Emaar for the 10th edition, which will be hosted at Burj Park, Downtown Dubai. The series offers free public screenings with a 2,000-seat capacity.

The film will be introduced by the Bollywood star Jaaved Jaffrey and will screen on December 7 at 8pm. Additionally, it will screen at Vox Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates, during the festival, which runs from December 6 to 14.

Produced by Eva Sayre of the Dubai-based Veritas Films, Champ of the Camp follows a massive Bollywood singing and trivia competition that has been running for many years across more than 70 camps throughout the country.

“Narrated [and sung] entirely in the voices of the labourers, the film alternates between the X Factor-style suspense of the competition and the labour environment, while weaving in scenes of their daily routines as labourers in Dubai,” according to a statement from the festival.
