One person died and six others were injured in accidents across the country caused by reduced visibility induced by heavy fog.
The accidents, which occurred between December 21 and 24, were caused by reckless driving and motorists overtaking vehicles in undesignated areas, according to the Ministry of Interior.
Brig Gen Ghaith Al Zaabi, director-general of the traffic department at the Ministry of Interior, called on owners of lorries and large vehicles not to use the roads during heavy fog.
Dubai Police said they received 1,521 calls on Sunday morning due to the weather conditions and reported 54 traffic accidents between 6am and 9.30am.
On Monday, heavy congestion was reported in Dubai with the usual traffic on the E311 fifth industrial street Mohammed bin Zayed road towards Mirdif.
Slow moving traffic was reported on Al Ittihad Street heading towards Dubai. Delays were also expected in the Al Qusais area, mainly on Beirut and Cairo streets.
Motorists traveling on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road from the National Paints roundabout in Sharjah to Mirdif City Centre were caught in long queues.
Elsewhere, there are delays on Muhaisnah and Al Tawar.
Delays are also expected on Al Ittihad Street heading towards Dubai, and towards 12 Street and the Sharjah Ring Road.
Further congestion was reported in Abu Dhabi in Al Shahama Road at the Eastern Mangroves and Al Ain towards Abu Dhabi.
