DUBAI // Do not speed: we are waiting for you. That was the message to adults from children who attended the launch of the Speed Kills traffic campaign yesterday.
The short sentence was inscribed on a card and attached to a toy car, to be handed to their parents.
"Imagine the power of this message for a father who gets this car from his child before leaving the house," said Major Gen Saif al Zafein, the head of Dubai Police Traffic Department. "This message is bound to be powerful and it will make people understand that speed kills."
Children across Dubai will now receive these toy cars to give to their parents.
Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Tamim, the Dubai Police chief, said that creating a road safety culture at an early age would change the reality of the roads in Dubai. "It is these young generations who will help us realise our target of zero death rate per 100,000 inhabitants by 2020. The child who is eight years old today will be 18 by then, and by making safe driving part of his lifestyle we can make sure that we will reach our target," he said.
