SHARJAH // Police in Sharjah are cracking down on people who shoot radar cameras, after almost a dozen were damaged recently.
Maj Gen Humaid Mohammed Al Hudaidi, commander in chief of Sharjah Police, said eleven radar cameras on the two main highways in the emirate were shot at recently.
"All the repaired radars are back to business and operating like all other radars in the country," he said.
Six of the cameras attacked were on the road from Al Dhaid to Madam, and four were on Maliha Road.
Maj Gen Al Hudaidi said police were investigating the shootings, and reminded residents that the cameras were there to ensure safer roads.
"We cannot disclose the progress of the investigations at this point but we want to assure the general public that police are following some good leads and soon the perpetrators would be brought to justice."
He said the practice of shooting radar cameras was alien to the good behaviour and morals of UAE youth and suggested that a gang was behind the vandalism.
Maj Gen Al Hudaidi urged the public to call the police if they suspected there were criminals in their neighbourhood.
