ABU DHABI // The UAE Project to Assist Pakistan is to distribute 10,000 food packages worth US$500,000 (Dh1.8 million) to displaced people affected by military operations in the country, it announced yesterday.

The humanitarian programme is being carried out on the instructions of Sheikh Khalifa, the President of the UAE, to alleviate suffering in areas affected by upheaval.

Within the next few days, the food will be distributed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and north and south Waziristan in coordination with the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA).

The initiative forms the second phase of an RCA-funded aid programme, the first phase of which involved the distribution of 20,000 food parcels to three refugee camps during Ramadan.
