FUJAIRAH // Funeral prayers were held yesterday morning for an Emirati officer who died on Thursday while on holiday in Thailand.

An investigation remains ongoing as to what caused the death of Sultan Al Shehhi, 21.

His body was recovered at a waterfall on the island of Phuket in southern Thailand on Friday. His family said they still do not know what caused his death.

"Everyone told us a different story. No one knows the truth yet," said Marwan Al Shehhi, 23, a cousin and close friend of Sultan's who was raised in the same village as the deceased.

His body was flown home by the Government early on Saturday morning and buried within hours.

"We appreciate what they did for us and we thank them," said Marwan.

Hundreds attended the funeral in the East Coast village of Qirat in Fujairah, where he was raised.
