More than 55kg of expired food and cosmetics seized after swoop in Fujairah
Officials confiscated items from dozens of premises in Dibba
More than 55kg of out-of-date food and cosmetics has been seized after a public health crackdown in Fujairah.
Dibba Municipality officials carried out swoops at dozens of premises in the area as part of an operation targeting traders flouting safety regulations.
Nearly 35kg of expired food was confiscated during the string of inspections, with 14 food outlets fined for violating food safety laws and another 10 slapped with warnings.
Inspectors also discovered 10kg of expired beauty products at supermarkets, which were confiscated and destroyed.
Another 10kg of expired cosmetics and beauty products were taken 94 hair and beauty salons in the area during the enforcement action.
Nineteen barbers and beauty salons have been fined for not following the municipality’s health and safety regulations while 15 others were warned.
Most of the breaches related to the use of expired or counterfeit materials, uncleanliness or poorly maintained tools.
Hassan Al Yamahi, director of Dibba Municipality, said that the inspection campaign is part of an effort to maintain public health standards and avoid members of the public being put at risk from potentially hazardous products.
Last June, the municipality seized around 10kg of expired cosmetics and beauty products during an inspection campaign on 145 hair and beauty salons during Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr.
The Municipality urged the public to report any violations by calling 09 244 3399.
