A labourer trapped in a sewer with water filling up around him was saved in a last-gasp rescue by police.
A group of workers had been extending water pipelines in Oud Metha when the man became stuck in a 2 metre-deep hole, lodged in by concrete, according to Maj Khalid Al Hammadi, head of the land rescue and difficult missions section at Dubai Police.
The incident was reported at 9.40am on Wednesday and the special rescue teams were onsite 10 minutes later, according to Maj Al Hammadi.
Rescuers propped up the concrete slab before pumping the water out and digging the man out.
The worker was said to be in good health and did not sustain any injuries.
