DUBAI // A security guard at Ibn Battuta Mall molested a shop worker when she used the toilet during a late shift, a court heard yesterday.

The woman told prosecutors she asked the security guard A S, 30, from Egypt, to unlock the toilet for her at about midnight on March 8 this year and that when his key did not work he told her to follow him to a toilet for male employees.

She refused and turned to walk away when she felt him groping her.

“He squeezed and I got mad and asked him to go away from me,” she recalled.

The security guard denied a charge of sexual assault and told the Criminal Court he was praying at the time of the incident. He urged the court to check the mall’s surveillance cameras, which he said would exonerate him.

The case was adjourned to October 27 for the court to obtain the security footage.
