A health and lifestyle clinic is due to open at the St Regis Saadiyat Island Resort early next year.

The DNA Centre for Integrative Medicine and Wellness will offer holistic family healthcare combining western diagnostics with eastern alternative medicine.

Affiliated with the GW Centre for Integrative Medicine in the US, it is due to open in the first quarter.

Treatments will range from anti-ageing to diseases such as cardiovascular disorders and diabetes.

"Our centre takes into account the medical needs of the patient as well as their overall wellness," said Dr Nasim Ashraf, chairman of DNA Health.

"There are many clinics that offer the medical treatment but the spiritual element is missing, although it's critical to the patient's results … studies have shown that cancer patients respond much better to treatment when they have an overall positive attitude than just medication."

Dr Ashraf said cultural factors were taken into consideration: "For example, we only have women serving female patients."

DNA Health has signed a leasing agreement with the Abu Dhabi Tourism Development and Investment Company.

Health and wellbeing tourism is a US$100 billion (Dh367.29bn) industry and is projected to grow to $1 trillion in the next decade.
