DUBAI // Dubai Municipality has warned against the use of white henna, saying it contains chemical dyes and harmful components that can cause skin allergies and infections.

Dr Naseem Rafei, head of the consumer goods safety section at the municipality’s public health department, said that white henna has become a trend at women’s beauty salons and is made of manually prepared mixtures, with chemical dyes, adhesives and water, with some skin-whitening substances.

These components, particularly industrial dyes added to the mixtures, can cause allergic reactions leading to dermatitis and skin infections, and causing swelling and redness that could require immediate medical care.
