ABU DHABI // Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak has received an insight into the advanced treatments that the Children’s National Medical Centre in Washington DC is providing to children.

Sheikha Fatima, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, met with a delegation from the centre’s paediatric facility at the Rowdat Al Reef Palace.

The medical centre, which houses the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation, is ranked among the best paediatric institutions in the US, reported state news agency Wam.

Sheikha Fatima and delegation, led by Pam King Sams, executive vice president and chief development officer of centre, reviewed a number of projects and innovations being applied to make paediatric surgery more precise, less invasive, and pain-free.

The institute was founded in 2009 with a gift of Dh550.5 million from the Abu Dhabi Government. Since then, more than 50 research projects into paediatric surgical innovation have been launched.

Sheikha Fatima, the widow of the UAE’s founding father Sheikh Zayed, was also accompanied by other VIPs and medical experts during the meeting.
