The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) will provide 700,000 energy-saving light bulbs that save 40 per cent more energy compared to regular light bulbs. Installation will be in multiple stages, starting in two months in residential buildings before implementation in Government buildings. The private sector will follow, said Waleed Suleiman, deputy chief executive for Strategy and Works Development at Dewa.

Dewa also intends to link to solar panels that will be installed in residential buildings in Dubai at a later time.

Mr Suleiman said Dewa would purchase the bulbs itself, adding that it has already acquired 700,000 bulbs worth Dh8 million.
