Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed posts video praising work of teachers in building the country
Sheikh Mohammed thanks UAE educators for 'major role' in society on World Teacher's Day
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces, has marked World Teacher’s Day with a personal thank you to educators.
Sheikh Mohammed sent a message of support on his Twitter account, accompanied by a video from the Khalifa Award for Education with a voice-over saying: “On this occasion I would like to thank teachers who played a major role in getting our children to where they are now.”
The video showed teachers working in classrooms with children of all ages, with the message: “This is how nations are built. By focusing on quality, on competency, rather than on quality.”
Teachers set “a good example” towards responsibility and patriotism, it added.
Earlier this year, the Crown Prince launched the Mohammed bin Zayed Award for Best GCC Teacher with prizes worth Dh6 million.
On Wednesday, Dubai Cares announced it would fund a three year Dh4.5 million project to train around 17,000 teachers in Uganda.
In Dubai, five teachers have won the second Mariamma Varkey Award for Inspirational and Outstanding Teaching at Gems schools, with $60,000 going to the top winner.
The award honours the founder of Gems Education.
