Dubai currently only generates 4.5 MW of solar power, in private small-scale systems that use photovoltaic technology to convert sunlight into electricity.
However, as outlined in the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, the emirate aims to reach 1,000MW of solar power by 2030. This would represent 5 per cent of the power produced in the emirate. The majority of its energy, about 71 per cent, will still be generated by natural gas.
Nuclear power and advanced technologies using coal will each provide 12 per cent of the energy mix.
