The Eid Al Fitr holiday is just days away - and Dubai's emergency services will be working around the clock to ensure the celebrations pass safely.

While many workers across the emirate are already looking forward to jetting off on a summer break, Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) - which oversees fire service response - has been busy plotting its preparations for the period.

Colonel Hassan Al Mutawa, assistant director general of DCD said emergency planning has been completed ahead of the holiday, likely to begin on either Tuesday or Wednesday.

The exact start date of the holiday depends on when Ramadan ends.

Col Al Mutawa said all 26 fire stations in Dubai are ready and waiting to deal with any situation that may come their way during Eid.

“We aim for a  response time less than the international average, of between 6 to 8 minutes, which we achieved in six of our civil defence stations during this year,” he said.

“More than 70,000 buildings and establishments in Dubai are connected directly to civil defence operation rooms, which ensures fires are reported immediately,” he said.

Civil defence teams will work closely with police, ambulance services and hospitals to protect the public.
