Dead workman's family must repay blood money to insurance company

Relatives of a digger operator killed in a workplace accident were yesterday ordered to pay their blood money back to the insurance company.
The Abu Dhabi court previously awarded the family Dh18,000 compensation, ruling the accident was a type of "work injury", but ruled no blood money was deserved as the accident was a matter of "fate".
The Appeals Court overturned this verdict and ordered blood money of Dh200,000 to be paid.
A further appeal was accepted by the Commercial Court yesterday, which cancelled the blood money order.
