DUBAI// Customs officials seized four kilograms of opium hidden in a postal parcel on board a transit flight, authorities said today. The opium was detected by a customs inspector at Dubai International Airport who x-rayed the parcel. The "technical support unit" and the K9 dogs squad was immediately brought to the scene to check the cargo, according to a Dubai Customs statement. The substance was later transferred to a laboratory where tests confirmed it was opium. Authorities said today that the parcel had been heading to an unspecified Western country. The seizure has been transferred to Dubai Police's anti-narcotics division. Dubai Customs was unable to provide any further details.
