DUBAI // A businesswoman accused of killing an acquaintance told the court today that his family had dropped the case against her.

The 26-year-old AF, from Kazakhstan, told the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance that the relatives of YS, from the Ukraine, had given her a waiver. She was unable to enter it into evidence, however, because her lawyer was not present.

AF was charged on May 29 with murdering YS at a villa in Jumeirah on November 4, 2010. She admitted to killing him, but said it was done in self-defence.

She has already been diagnosed with a psychological disorder, according to prosecution records. During her arrest she told police YS had killed himself after a dispute between them.

Forensic experts, however ruled the death a homicide.

The next hearing will be on December 4.
