DUBAI // Three men tricked another man into believing they were CID officers before kidnapping him and stealing almost Dh500 in cash and his mobile phone worth Dh100, a court heard yesterday.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance charged SH, 26 and SA, 23, both workers from Bangladesh, with impersonating CID officers, kidnap and theft.

SH denied the charges while SA did not appear in court.

The men allegedly carried out their crime along with a third suspect, who is on the run.

Prosecutors said the three men stopped a 29-year-old Bangladeshi man one night in February this year near the Lotus hotel in the Al Muraqqabat area.

SH showed the man an ID card that said he was a CID officer, and asked him to provide his labour card. When the man took out his wallet, SH grabbed it and the two men pushed the victim inside a silver car, the court heard. SA twisted the man's arm as they travelled to Satwa, according to court records.

"I did not suspect they were not from CID all of the journey ... I only got suspicious after they wanted to throw me out of the car," the victim told prosecutors.

The suspects reportedly took Dh475 from the man's wallet, along with his mobile phone, before hitting him and throwing him out of the vehicle, according to court records. The case was adjourned to June 6.
