DUBAI // A woman who claims she was raped was today charged at the Dubai Misdemeanours Court with consuming alcohol.
According to prosecutors the 26-year-old Kazakh EA met the 34-year-old Jordanian manager AA for a dinner at her Al Barsha home on March 14 at which alcohol was served. She claims he then beat her with an electric cable before raping her three times and stealing her belongings.
He denies this, saying she offered to have consensual sex with him for Dh1,835, but that when they had intercourse she bit his chest and tongue, so he beat her. Both were charged by the misdemeanours court with illegal consumption of alcohol. The man confessed to the alcohol charge, while the woman failed to show yesterday to enter a plea. The man also faces a rape charge at the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance.
The misdemeanour court's next hearing will be on May 2.
