DUBAI // A Dubai security firm has donated more than US$35,000 (Dh128,600) to support the education of 40 orphaned or impoverished children in Bangalore, India, where it recruits most of its workers. Transguard Group said it would give the money to the Christel House charity school in Bangalore. Joe Morrin, human resources director of Transguard, said: "This is a very special charity that does amazing work for children in India. The strong links between Transguard and India make this a cause that is dear to all our hearts."

The children who will benefit come from the slums of Bangalore. Many of the parents of the impoverished children rely on odd jobs to support their families. The Christel House school, which opened in 2001 and has 828 children from nursery age upwards, has a fully equipped library, art room, music room and a play area for the younger children. The Dubai funding will help provide children with uniforms, stationery, and food.
