Scores of people were forced to flee their homes after a fire tore through a villa in Ras Al Khaimah.

Two residential complexes in the emirate were evacuated while firefighters battled the blaze at the five-bedroom property on Tuesday.

Ras Al Khaimah's civil defence were alerted to the fire shortly before 2pm.

A total of 66 residents at two residential complexes were ordered to leave the area while crews brought the fire under control.

“As a precautionary measure and to ensure the safety of all, we evacuated two compounds,” said brigadier general Mohammad Abdullah Al Zaabi, director of Ras Al Khaimah's civil defence.

He said firefighters prevented the blaze was spreading to nearby homes.

The villa was completely gutted by the fire but no injuries were reported.
