Goldikova took her Group One tally to 10 when winning the Prix Rothschild at Deauville in France for the third year running. Freddie Head's amazing five-year-old mare blitzed the opposition - including Shiekh Hamdan bin Mohammed's Rainfall and Jaber Abdullah's Music Show - with another incredible performance. The victory means Goldikova joins the former Head-ridden Miesque as the only horse to have won 10 Group One races since the inception of the Pattern in 1970.
Meanwhile, Gloria De Campeao's career is on hold as the Dubai World Cup winner has suffered a slight leg injury. Connections of the Pascal Bary-trained seven-year-old have yet to decide whether his racing days are over or to make arrangements for him to go to stud. "Time will tell if he will be retired or not," Patrick Barbe, the racing adviser to owner Stefan Friborg, said. "He is still with Pascal Bary and will stay there until he goes to Dubai or to stud. He is the leading money-winner in the world at the moment.
"People said that when Zenyatta won the Breeders' Cup Classic she beat a great field including Gio Ponti, Twice Over and Richard's Kid. "Gloria beat the same horses in Dubai but did not get the same recognition. I reckon the field in Dubai was probably superior to the Breeders' Cup. There is a reason for that being the richest race in the world." Meanwhile, Prince Khalid Abdullah is likely to run Twice Over and Byword - who finished one-two in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot - in the Juddmonte International at York, England, on August 17, a race he sponsors. The talented pair would give their owner - a first cousin to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia - a strong hand in the Group One contest.
