SOFIA // Manchester United's Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov insists that he will stay with the club for another year, rejecting speculation about a possible move away from Old Trafford.
In an interview for the 24 Chassa daily, the 30-year-old former Bulgaria captain said he is determined to regain his place.
"I'm a Manchester United player and will be glad to fulfil my contract," said Berbatov, whose contract expires in 2012.
In the interview, Berbatov also denied earlier reports that he had left Wembley Stadium ahead of the Champions League final on Saturday. He revealed that he watched the game on TV in the dressing room.
"I was just disappointed and ashamed that I was left out of the squad. Because I can't hide my emotions, I didn't want people to see how sad I was," Berbatov said.
Commenting on Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to leave him out of the squad, Berbatov said he felt "very disappointed" and "it hurt me a lot," but acknowledged that a coach's ruling has to be accepted.
Berbatov was the Premier League's joint top scorer this season with 20 goals as United won their 19th league title, and he vowed to help the club win the title again next year.
"I'm very proud of this. I came to England from a little country and I know that during every training session, during every game I have to be better that the others because I'm a foreigner," he said.
"Manchester United is the highest step for me," Berbatov said, adding that everything after that would be a step down.
"Of course, this moment will come but for the time being I want to stay with Manchester United and help my team win the 20th title, which I'm sure is on its way."
