Al Wasl have denied Diego Maradona will become the second highest paid coach in the world when he starts his job as coach of the Pro League club.
Reports in South America and Europe have suggested the value of Maradona's two-year contract with the Dubai club to be worth between US$10million (Dh36,729m) to US$34.5m, which would leave only Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid earning more. Mourinho was paid 10m Euros (Dh51.387m) net from his second season at Inter Milan and is thought to earn at least that at Real, particularly as Cristiano Ronaldo earns 10.5m Euros net.
But the media office at Al Wasl "denies these allegations and confirms that they are false and have no substance or credibility", adding "the value of the contract is worthy of the stature and reputation of the great legend".
"Details of Maradona's contract will be revealed during a press conference that is expected to be held in the presence of the new coach during the month of June," Marwan bin Bayat, the chairman of Al Wasl, said.
