Cinema Space presents screenings of Cinderella and The Breadwinner on Saturday. At 4pm, see a newly restored version of the animated 1950 film about Cinderella, whose fairy godmother turns her rags into a beautiful gown so she can go to the royal ball, where she meets her prince charming. At 8pm, Manarat Al Saadiyat and Gulf Film present The Breadwinner, a 2017 Academy Award nominated film for Best Animated Feature about Parvana, an 11-year-old girl growing up under the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001. When her father is wrongfully arrested, Parvana cuts her hair and dresses like a boy to support her family.

5 Broken Cameras film screening

Cinema Space presents a screening of 5 Broken Cameras, a 2011 Palestinian film by Emad Burnat and Guy Davidi. The deeply personal, firsthand account of non-violent resistance in a West Bank village threatened by settlements. The footage was edited by Davidi, but shot almost entirely by Burnat, a Palestinian farmer, who bought his first camera to record the birth of his youngest son. The film is structured around the destruction of each of his cameras and focuses on the family’s evolution over five years of turmoil. The film is in Arabic and Hebrew with English subtitles.

Cinema Space and Goethe-Institut Gulf Region present a screening of Hordur - Between the Worlds. The 2015 German film directed by Ekrem Ergun is about Aylin, a German-Turkish teenager caught between cultures. At home, she is the caretaker for her family and at school she is tormented by bullies. When she fights back and injures one of her bullies, she is sentenced to community service at a horse farm, where she is drawn to Hordur, a wild Icelandic horse that cannot return to its homeland. When Aylin finally gets permission to ride Hordur, she discovers so much more about herself. The film is in German and Turkish with English subtitles.

Manarat Al Saadiyat presents Ramadan Arcade, which features a range of cultural experiences based on traditional elements of Ramadan that have been transformed into contemporary concepts and trends. Enjoy playing traditional games such as karom, jakaro, hokm and hand, as well as classic arcade games like Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Mario Kart. Teachers from Bait Al Oud will give oud, quanun, cello and rebabah lessons and there will be a concert by Bait Al Oud teachers and students. Take part in creative workshops in collaboration with Manarat Al Saadiyat art studio, where you can make lanterns, recipe books, clay pots, jewellery and more. There will be Arabic and English poetry writing workshops, vendors selling local and international fashion, and food outlets from the non-profit organisation Mirbad.

Charity event and artefacts museum

Visitors to the Mall at World Trade Centre Abu Dhabi are invited to celebrate Ramadan by contributing to a six-metre mosaic mural of Sheikh Zayed, through the purchase of a glass mosaic tile for Dh5, which will build to depict two portraits of the Founding Father. All proceeds will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE, which grants wishes to seriously ill children. There is also a pop-up museum featuring a collection of 80 Islamic artefacts, providing a cultural experience for the whole family.

Visit the exhibition Lines and Stitches, a showcase of fashion illustration in the UAE that sheds light on the growing creative genre through the artwork of UAE-based fashion designers and illustrators. The exhibition features more than 20 illustrations and 8 installations as well as workshops by illustrators and designers every Saturday, including fashion illustration drawings, textile printmaking, capsule collection creation and fashion mood board.
