It's not exactly the reunion fans were all waiting for, but Matthew Perry becoming the last member of the six Friends cast to join Instagram has given the internet plenty to be thrilled about.
The actor, who played the role of the sarcastic Chandler Bing in the hit NBC comedy show, created an account on Thursday, February 6 – and has already amassed a following of 1.8 million. This is despite the fact that he hasn’t uploaded a single image on the social media platform.
It should come as no surprise that the first people the actor started following were Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and David Schwimmer. Need further proof that this is Matthew Perry’s real account? His bio reads, in typical Chandler Bing style, “What is this, my Instagram account?”
It was Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow, who announced the star's arrival on Instagram on Thursday with a post that was also a throwback to an episode in the show.
“Finally!!! Yay!! Can't believe my eyes MY EYES. Welcome to Instagram @mattyperry4 #friendsforlife,” read the caption.
Meanwhile, other members of the cast have also voiced their excitement.
Jennifer Aniston was among the first to comment on Kudrow’s post with the cheeky, “Yay Matty! Could you TAKE any longer?”
Even Courtney Cox chimed in with the comment, “Yes, Matty!”
Perry joining the social media platform comes only a few months after Aniston's Guinness World Record-breaking move to the app. When Aniston joined Instagram in October 2019, she set a record by garnering 1 million followers in just five hours and 16 minutes.
The last episode of Friends was screened in 2004, but it's clear that the craze behind the show isn't dying down anytime soon. December 2019, saw fans fret when it was believed that the show would be leaving Netflix worldwide.
Meanwhile, in the UAE, Alpine-themed restaurant Publique has announced that it will be bringing back its popular Friends quiz on Wednesday, February 19.
