He jetted in to celebrate the world's most inspirational educators, but Hugh Jackman is making sure he also takes in some of the country's most celebrated sights during his visit to the UAE.

The Australian actor, who is in town to attend the Global Teacher Prize in Dubai, ventured to the capital over the weekend, he revealed on his social media pages.

The Wolverine star visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi with wife Deborra-Lee Furness, just days after journeying into Dubai's desert.

"Thank you for an extraordinary visit," Jackman, 50, captioned an image from the Grand Mosque, as he posed with his wife of 23 years.

The couple made their trip to the capital shortly before Jackman appears at the Global Teacher Prize on March 24, where one educator will be awarded $1 million (Dh3.67m) for their hard work.

Last month, The Greatest Showman actor announced the line-up of 10 finalists for the prize, describing them as the "real superheroes".

“Since the launch of the Global Teacher Prize in Dubai just five years ago it has gone on to inspire over 30 national teacher prizes, unearthing thousands of stories of heroes that have transformed young people’s lives,” Jackman said in a video.

Little Mix, Rita Ora and Liam Payne will also attend the annual awards, after performing at The Assembly, a concert celebrating the prize, in Dubai on Saturday night.

Jackman is rumoured to be performing at the ceremony, after teasing fans on Thursday with a video shot in the desert.

“We’re in Dubai, in the Empty Quarter," he told his 24 million Instagram followers in the clip. "We're rehearsing really hard getting ready for the show, but as we say in Australia, you’ve got to work hard but you’ve also got to play hard too, so we are doing a little dune buggying.”

However, the star could also be talking about his world tour, which kicks off on May 7.

The Man. The Music. The Show. Hugh Jackman launches in the United Kingdom, before travelling across Europe to the States, Canada and the Southern Hemisphere.
