Model Gigi Hadid made the temporary move from in front of the camera to behind it this month. The 21-year-old has been photographing her boyfriend, pop star Zayn Malik, sporting pieces from the spring/summer 2017 collection he’s designed for Versus Versace.
The images, which also featured model Adwoa Aboah, were captured by Hadid on an iPhone and digital camera. The setting for the shoot was a suite, hired for the evening, in the popular Château Marmont hotel in Los Angeles.
“It was sick to work with Versus,” says Malik, formerly of boyband One Direction. “Donatella is a G. It was extra special that Gigi shot the campaign. Looking forward to following up with my Versus collection that drops in June.”
Malik wore key pieces from his range including a Versus leather jacket with lion head buttons, a faded denim jacket with safety pin fastenings and ripped jeans lined with metal mesh. Aboah channelled the same urban vibe with chain-metal tanks and fine-knit tops with shredded panels.
“The Versus campaign captures everything that is special about Zayn, Gigi and Adwoa,” says Donatella, “They are young people who define the mood of their generation with their honesty, energy and their love.”
