90210 actor Luke Perry dies aged 52

The actor recently suffered a massive stroke

Actor Luke Perry, who starred in the hit 1990s television series Beverly Hills, 90210, died on Monday at the age of 52 after suffering a massive stroke, his agent said.

Perry, who was admitted to hospital in the Los Angeles area last week, died surrounded by his two children, his fiancee and former wife, his parents, siblings and other close family and friends, agent Arnold Robinson said.

"The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning," Mr Robinson said.

Perry shot to fame as the sensitive bad boy Dylan McKay in Beverly Hills, 90210 - a show that ran from 1990 to 2000 and was definitive for so many adolescents of the time.

In the 2000s, he appeared in many TV shows, including Windfall, Jeremiah, Body of Proof, Ties That Bind, and, most recently Riverdale - a show that, in many ways, is the 90210 of its generation: with Perry playing the main character's dad, Fred Andrews.

His most prominent movie role was perhaps 1994's 8 Seconds, which chronicled the life of bullrider Lane Frost:
