Grammy-Award winning pop singer Lady Gaga will play the halftime show at the 2017 Super Bowl. “The rumours are true. This year the SUPER BOWL goes GAGA!” the musician tweeted on social media. The NFL retweeted the message, adding “Can’t wait. Let’s do this!” The Super Bowl is the most-watched event on US television drawing more than 100 million viewers and is the most expensive TV programme for advertisers, who pay millions of dollars to secure the 30-second commercial spots. This will be the second time Lady Gaga has taken to the Super Bowl stage. She opened last year with a performance of the national anthem. The Super Bowl is scheduled to be held in Houston, Texas, on February 5. — Reuters
Arnie gets a talking to from the German police
Kindergarten Cop Arnold Schwarzenegger caught the attention of the police at Munich's main train station at the weekend for breaking the rules. According to German police, the actor and former California governor and his bodyguard were stopped on Friday for riding their bicycles along the station's platforms. When approached Schwarzenegger immediately apologised, explaining he was having trouble walking. He offered to take a picture with the officer. According to a police statement "after brief small talk with the federal police officer, the 'Terminator' left the main station through the north entrance". To keep the peace, Schwarzenegger walked away, pushing his bike. — AP
Om Puri to appear in film based on India’s freedom movement
Award-winning veteran Bollywood actor Om Puri has joined forces popular Bengali actors Parambrata Chatterjee and Jisshu Sengupta for an upcoming film based on the freedom movement of India. The period drama, titled Neelghurni, has been adapted from the popular Bengali novel, a fictional account of the movement by Dineshchandra Chattopadhyay. Set against the backdrop of the Indigo Revolution that spread across the seven Bengali states of India the story will be of love, friendship, passion, betrayal, war and the final quest for freedom. Popular Bengali actresses Parno Mittra, Ananya Chatterjee and June Maliah will be part of the cast and the film will be produced by Poet Lovers and Lunatics Cinema House in association with Devika Entertainment. — IANS
Story behind next War of the Apes film to be released
Plot lines for War for the Planet of the Apes, the next film in the series due out next summer, will be revealed ahead of the forthcoming New York Comic Con festival. According to Entertainment Weekly, 20th Century Fox will present a stage show in New York on Thursday that will give fans an exclusive behind the scenes look at the highly anticipated movie. The stage show will run on the first day of the three-day event and will star director Matt Reeves, producer Dylan Clark and the ape Caesar, played by Andy Serkis. The film will also star Woody Harrelson as the ruthless Colonel, Steve Zahn, Terry Notary, and Karin Konoval and is due out on July 14, 2017. — The National staff
There should be a woman as Bond, says Cole
Actress Lily Cole says she thinks it's time for a female-led James Bond film. Cole told femalefirst.co.uk she would rather be Bond than a Bond girl. "I think the Bond girl character would be a fun one to cross off your bucket list," she says. "But they are not the most interesting characters historically, whereas, Bond could be a bit more fun." She adds she is a fan of male and female stereotypes and believes that Cate Blanchett would be the perfect fit for a female James Bond. — IANS
