Malena Avila from the Cuban music trio Esencia Cubana speaks of her inspirations. My first conscious memory of listening to music was when I started studying music at 9 years old. It was a Sonata by Johann Sebastian Bach.
My first album ever was a compilation of songs by the famous cuban singer Benny More, who marked an era and style in the cuban music. When I perform I feel strong enough to reach people’s feelings through the music. The music can cheer up and change the mood of a sad person and I feel lucky to be able to do that.
I wish I’d written the song Ojos Negros by Descemer Bueno, that song is just perfection, from the lyrics to the harmony. Music to me is a way of expression, is art, it’s everything.
In our concert you can expect, some classic cuban tunes, some original ones, good energy, some cuban dance, It’s gonna be a cuban explosion.
