DUBAI // Plans to open a hothouse facility for ideas and cement the UAE’s reputation as a destination for innovators were launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai on Wednesday.

The new establishment, which will open in 2017, will be in the Emirates Towers area near Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, state news agency Wam reported.

The Museum of the Future, whose motto is “See the future, create the future”, aims to stimulate and incubate ideas and bring together researchers, designers, inventors and financiers to anticipate and create the future.

“His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, our President, has declared 2015 to be the year of innovation in the UAE. Today, we show how serious and committed we are to that mission by turning the UAE into a major international destination for innovators,” said Sheikh Mohammed. “The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it and execute it.”

The museum will use design, technology prototyping and foresight to create real examples of change instead of just displaying exhibits or publishing reports.

Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, will serve as vice president of the museum’s board of trustees.

Major sections of the museum structure will be built using three dimensional printing construction techniques. It will be a platform to demonstrate and test the latest inventions from world-leading tech giants, as well as start-ups.

The museum will also host conferences and learning in scientific developments, trends and designs as well as their practical applications.
