DUBAI // Farmers have been paid the second installment of Dh134 million for 64,000 tonnes of dates harvested across the UAE by the Abu Dhabi based Al Foah Company.
Payments have been made to about 7,000 farmers who yielded their crops in season between August 26 and September 10.
Al Foah is striving to build a global brand of Arabian dates and build on the country’s reputation as one of the top 10 cultivators in the world.
Money is paid to farmers periodically to enable them to satisfy their operational needs. The eastern region was the most bountiful, producing 38,000 tonnes, followed by 19,000 tonnes in the west and 7,000 tonnes in the Northern Emirates.
Musallam Obaid Balkhalis Al Ameri, the chief executive of Al Foah, said: “This company, which has established and developed world-class processes and systems to serve more than 18,000 farmers across the UAE, aims to build a global brand of the Arabian date as an intrinsic part of Arab life and heritage.”
