SHARJAH // A newborn has been found dead at a rubbish dump, prompting a police investigation.
The Sharjah Police General Command is looking into the matter after the body of the child was found at the dump in Al Sajaa on Tuesday.
Police received a call about the child and CID headed to the scene to collect evidence.
The child’s body was removed from the dump and a forensics team examined, photographed and took its fingerprints.
A post-mortem examination is to be conducted to identify the baby’s cause of death, age and other information.
Sharjah Police has been dealing with two similar incidents in recent weeks — one dead newborn was found in Al Sajaa by workers from Bee’ah, the emirate’s waste recycling company, and another was found in a dump in Industrial Area No 12.
