DUBAI // A 20-year-old man has died after the Ferrari he was driving hit a palm tree, splitting the vehicle in two before it burst into flames.

The crash happened at 1am on Sunday in Motor City, said Salah Bu Farousha, the chief traffic prosecutor in Dubai.

The Indian driver was speeding when he lost control of the car, crossed the median divider of the road and drove on the grass for two metres before ploughing into the tree.

The car split and caught fire. Another motorist tried in vain to drag the young man out of his burning car.

Mr Bu Farousha said one other motorist had died in Dubai since the beginning of Ramadan. The 21-year-old Emirati man caused an accident on the Dubai-Hatta Road last week.
