‘We’re back, Earth!’ Nasa and US federal workers to return to work after shutdown

The White House’s budget office said federal workers should expect to return to work this morning as the partial government shutdown comes to an end.

WASHINGTON //

The White House’s budget office said federal workers should expect to return to work this morning as the partial government shutdown comes to an end.

On Twitter, US space agency Nasa reacted to the news that President Barack Obama signed the bill that ended the shutdown by posting a picture of Earth from Space.

“We’re back, Earth!,” @NasaGoddard tweeted, later tweeting a picture of stars.

The House and Senate both passed a measure late Wednesday to reopen the government and avert a federal default.

But Sylvia Mathews Burwell, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, said she was instructing federal employees to follow the news and to check the Office of Personnel Management’s website for further updates about returning to work.

Hundreds of thousands of federal workers have been furloughed since the shutdown started October 1.
