Two days after announcing his strategy on Iran, US President Donald Trump called Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to discuss the new plan.

Mr Trump has decertified the nuclear deal and designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as “supporters of terror”.

The White House announced that the two leaders spoke on Saturday and “King Salman praised President Trump for his visionary new Iran strategy and pledged to support American leadership.”

Combatting terrorism and extremism were also discussed during the call.

The two leaders last spoke on August 31st to discuss the dispute with Qatar.

Yesterday’s call also follows the Trump administration approval for a $15 billion sale of THAAD anti-missile defense system to Saudi Arabia earlier this month.
