The former White House Communications Director said he would consider running in 2020 if Mr Trump does not seek a second term

Anthony Scaramucci, the former White House Communications Director who was dismissed by President Donald Trump after just six days, is reportedly considering running for office himself.

Bryan Lanza, a friend of Mr Scaramucci, revealed The Mooch (as he is known) has ambitions to become the next mayor of New York or the governor of New York City.

But an unnamed source, close to The Mooch, told Buzzfeed News over the weekend he had an even higher position in his sights- the presidency.

“He was 100% serious about it and asked us if we thought he would be a good president,” the source said.

Mr Scaramucci has dismissed the speculation about a possible future in politics as “fake news” but correspondence written by the 53-year-old and obtained by Buzzfeed on Sunday contained statements contrary to the outright denial.

According to the online publication, which has not published the correspondence to protect the identity of the source, Mr Scaramucci wrote that he would run for president in 2020 if Mr Trump did not seek a second term.

While his decision to run for governor of New York City next year would also be dependent on the actions of the incumbent. The Mooch said he would not run if Democrat Andrew Cuomo seeks a third term.

Unsurprisingly, Mr Scaramucci dismissed the claim in a text message sent on Sunday evening, saying that friends had asked him to entertain the idea of running but that he had never seriously contemplated the prospect.

The financier was famously fired days after he gave an expletive-riddled rant about his White House colleagues to a journalist.

At the moment, Mr Scaramucci said he is “enjoying post-swamp” life and working on several business ventures.

So far, Mr Trump has indicated he will run in 2020. Other celebrities who have expressed an interest in the top job include wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, comedian Stephen Colbert and television personality Mark Cuban.
