Sightline with Tim Marshall: US-Iran tensions escalate
Tim Marshall lays out the stakes of a worsening relationship between the United States and Iran
Iran and the USA: two hawks making aggressive signals to achieve aims, while saying they don’t want war. What could possibly go wrong?
Recent moves by both nations seem to indicate the tensions between the two nations is not going away any time soon. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has indicated nuclear production will restart soon, as the Donald Trump administration has already withdrawn from the 2015 nuclear deal.
The United States has declared Iran's Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organisation. And the trumpeting of American aircraft moving to the Gulf recently has only escalated matters.
So far, no red lines have been crossed. But, as Tim Marshall explains from The National's London bureau, both sides are getting closer to the line.
