Saudi Arabia arrests 46 suspects over Medina terror attack
Saudi Arabia yesterday said it had arrested 46 members of a militant cell responsible for a suicide bombing attack on the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina last summer.
Those arrested were detained in the western port city of Jeddah, said the government. The Saudi Press Agency quoted a spokesperson for the interior ministry as saying that the suspects included 32 Saudis and 14 of different Arab and foreign nationalities.
Three suicide bombers and two members of the security forces were killed in the unprecedented attack on the mosque and tomb of Prophet Mohammed.
There was no claim of responsibility for the attack nor did the interior ministry blame a specific group.
ISIL has carried out a series of bombings and shootings in Saudi Arabia since mid-2014 that have killed scores of people, most of them members of the Shiite Muslim minority and the security services.
