Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov has praised Saudi King Salman’s leadership of the Muslim world and efforts to combat extremism as he began a visit to the kingdom yesterday.

He described Saudi Arabia as the vibrant heart of the Islamic world and praised the king for his wisdom and vision, in support of the Islamic Ummah, rejection of extremism and combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

“Saudi Arabia has pledged since its establishment to care about the pilgrims who flock to it from all corners of the globe,” Mr Kadyrov told the UAE state news agency Wam ahead of his visit. “It provides all the facilities to them to perform their rituals conveniently and peacefully.”

The Chechen president also praised Saudi Arabia for its contribution to international efforts to tackle terrorism and its “unwavering commitment to implementing international resolutions issued by the UN Security Council pertaining to counter-terrorism.”

Mr Kadyrov spoke of recent attempts to divide Islamic unity through a conference, “Who are the people of the Sunni,” which was held in the Chechen capital, Grozny, on August 25, that excluded a group or a particular country.

Mr Kadyrov, who was in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, said he believed both Saudi Arabia and the UAE work for the unity of the Islamic nation, promote peace and tolerance and fight against terrorism.

He said he had recently met with Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in Jeddah.

During the visit to Riyadh the Chechen president will discuss ways to strengthen relations between the two sides in all fields.
