A military operation by joint Yemeni Resistance Forces on Yemen’s Red Sea coast has killed scores of Houthi rebel fighters, UAE state media Wam reported.

A surveillance operation around the districts of Bayt Al Faqih, Al Tuhayat and Hays on the coastal plain south of Houthi-held Hodeidah was followed by attacks in which 54 fighters were killed and 13 captured.

Over the past few weeks, Yemeni Resistance Forces have battled in the south of Hodeidah to take control of the inland districts of the province.

This latest military operation killed a Houthi military commander, Muhammad Ali Saleh Ghalib.

Yemeni Resistance Forces succeeded in destroying a strategic Houthi position in Al Jah, west of Bayt Al Faqih, and moved east towards Hussainiyah.

"Resistance forces managed to comb through farms and properties previously occupied by Houthis, where they found weapons and ammunition left behind by the militias," said Ahmad Ghailan, staff officer of morale guidance for the Yemeni Resistance Forces.

Mr Ghailan said the Houthis had attempted to stop residents of Al Jah from accessing supply routes to Hodeidah.
