Yemen's Shiite rebels form political party

The organisers, led by Mohammed Miftah, said the party, called Al Omah, was not be restricted to any particular sect or a group.

SANAA // Yemen's Shiite rebels has formed a political party in a bid to have role in the government.

The organisers, led by Mohammed Miftah, said the party was not be restricted to any particular sect or a group. Most of the people who attended Al Omah party's inaugural ceremony were supporters of the Houthis.

The rebels have been fighting an intermittent war against the government from 2004 until a truce was reached in 2010.

Mr Miftah said their main objective is "the independence of the Yemeni political decision from the foreign dominance".
