Yemen military offensive kills 35 Al Qaeda militants in Jaar

The assault came as thousands of people took part in a funeral for the dozens of soldiers killed on Monday in a suicide bombing in Sanaa.

SANAA // Thirty-five Al Qaeda-linked fighters were killed yesterday in Jaar, a militant stronghold in the southern Abyan province.

The attack was part of the military's offensive against militants launched on May 12.

Yesterday's assault came as thousands of people took part in a funeral for the dozens of soldiers killed on Monday in a suicide bombing in Sanaa.

The ceremony was held under heavy security. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula said Monday's attack, which killed 96 people, was in response to the southern offensive.
