Unknown gunmen assassinate Aden police anti-drug head
The well-respected officer was killed in a drive-by shooting
A senior police commander in the liberated Yemeni city of Aden was assassinated in a drive-by shooting on Sunday by unknown gunmen.
Brig Fadel Sael, the director of the counter-narcotics department of the Aden security forces, as well as two of his brothers, who worked as his security team, were killed in the Dar Saad of Aden, a source in Aden security told The National.
"Masked gunmen driving a car shot Brig Sael and his two guards dead while they were heading to work, the killers immediately escaped to unknown place", the source said.
The source said that they believe the assassination of the director of the drug control in Aden police was linked to his tangible effort to counter gang activity in the port city. The source said that drug gangs in selling drugs in Aden had spread since the war against Houthi rebels erupted in 2015.
The assassinated Brig Sael was seen as the police force’s most highly qualified officers and he was known for his great deal of experience and charismatic personality as a security officer. The source said he had successfully led many campaigns to fight drugs smuggling and the spread of the drugs gangs in Aden.
