UN General Assembly 2018: The 107-member delegation will be holding events on the sidelines of the gathering
Sheikh Abdullah leads UAE participation at UN General Assembly
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, will lead the UAE delegation at the 73rd United Nations General Assembly in New York this week.
The delegation will start the week by taking part in the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit on Monday, being held to mark the birth centenary of the late South African president. Sheikh Abdullah will address the General Assembly on Saturday.
The 107-member delegation includes Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future; Dr Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention and Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs; Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Reem Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment; Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State; Shamma Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, and officials and representatives of ministries and local bodies, the state news agency Wam reported.
The UAE has organised a series of events during the assembly, including a forum on "Building a Better World for Entrepreneurs" in which Queen Maxima of the Netherlands and World Bank president Jim Yong Kim will take part.
Other events include a panel discussion with Emirati and US women leaders in business and sustainability industries, and a debate on investment in routine health services and new models to reduce the risk of outbreaks, held in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the global vaccine alliance Gavi, the World Health Organisation and donor countries.
UAE officials will also attend meetings with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs on the situation in Yemen and with the UN's Central Emergency Response Fund, Wam said.
The Ministry of Defence and the General Women's Union will also sign a memorandum of understanding with the UN Women's Organisation on increasing the role of Arab women in the military and in peacekeeping.
